Se formaron en 1964 por John «Mouse» Michalski (guitarra) y Kenn Ellner (armónica, voces) y 2 amigos de la escuela secundaria. Inicialmente con el nombre de The Squires, y despues de varios cambios, nació The Count Five. Roy Chaney tocaba el bajo, John «Sean» Byrne la guitarra ritmica y la voz principal, y Craig «Butch» Atkinson la bateria.
El disco tiene el éxito Psychotic Reaction y dos versiones de The Who, My Generation y Out In The Street.
